Audiobook "Montezuma's Daughter" by the same name historical novel by Henry Rider Haggard.
Its action takes place against the backdrop of the conquest of Mexico, Fernando Cortes (1485-1547), during the ruler Montezuma II (1466-1520).
The story is carried out on behalf of the Englishman Thomas Wingfield, who after a series of adventures is a part of the Spanish expedition to the shores of New Spain, where before it opens the
exotic world of the Aztecs. He takes as his wife the daughter of the Emperor and implementing a plan of retribution his old enemy.
As in other adventure novels of the Victorian era, the natives are shown as noble savages - cruel, but, in essence, naive barbarians. The protagonist sympathetic to the death of civilization, not so
similar to the European, and more like locals than European colonists.
