Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov (in the world Daniel Savich Tuptalo; 1651 - 1709) - Russian church leader, Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church; spiritual writer, preacher. In 1757, the glorified
among the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church; the memory of September 21 (Julian calendar) and on the day of the Council Siberian Saints (June 10). Dimitry of Rostov became famous as the author of
a fruitful church - the compiler of collections of lives of the saints (most famously, in four books - "Lives of the Saints"). Work on the lives of the saints began May 6, 1684 and lasted for 20
years.
Life - a genre of religious literature, which describes the life and deeds of the saints. Life was created after the death of the saint, but not always, after the formal canonization. For meaningful
lives are characterized by severe and structural constraints (canon, literary etiquette), it is very different from the secular biographies.
The Passion of Christ - according to the Gospels, a set of events which brought Jesus Christ, physical and spiritual suffering in the last days and hours of his earthly life. Church remembers them in
the last days before Easter in the Holy Week, during which believers are gradually preparing for the holiday. A special place among the Passion occupy events after the Last Supper, the arrest, trial,
flogging and execution. Christians believe that many of the Passion have been predicted by the prophets of the Old Testament and by Jesus Christ.
