الطريقة هي جماعة من الناس تقوم بأداء رسالة محددة و مهام معينة في المجتمع . و الأصل في عملها : تعليم أصول الدين الإسلامي و تحفيظ القرآن الكريم و تعليم العلوم الشرعية لأبناء عموم المسلمين. بناء على هذه الأصول إنتشرت مراكز الطريقة القادرية المكاشفية بجميع أرجاء المعمورة لتؤدي ذات الرسالة .

بعد أن عرفنا الطريقة نأتي لإسمها. يتكون إسم الطريقة ( الطريقة القادرية المكاشفية ) من مقطعين "القادرية" : منسوبة للطريقة القادرية العلية لمؤسسها سلطان الأولياء سيدي العارف بالله تعالى الشيخ عبدالقادر الجيلاني ، رجل بغداد المشهور . أحد أركان الأمة المحمدية الذين أجمعت الأمة على ولايتهم ، له من المناقب و الكرامات الكثير من المصنفات ، تاب على يديه عشرات الآلاف و سلك على يديه الطريق كذلك . دفن رضي الله عنه بمدرسته ببغداد عام 561 للهجرة . أما المقطع الثاني " المكاشفية " فينسب لفريد عصره و سيد دهره الأستاذ العارف بالله تعالى الشيخ عبدالباقي المكاشفي . أسست الطريقة و إزدهرت بمنطقة الشكينيبة جنوب المناقل بولاية الجزيرة بالسودان ، في مطلع القرن العشرين و صارت قبلة القاصدين من الطلاب و الزوار و الضيوف من كافة أرجاء العالم . إشتهر سيدي الشيخ عبدالباقي المكاشفي بالكرامات الباهرة و المناقب الفاخرة ، فكان رضي الله عنه مستجاب الدعوة وافر القبول لدى عموم الناس . أوقد الشيخ نار القرآن و شيد منازل طلاب القرآن و الضيوف و المسجد ، و نظراً لشح الماء أمر تلاميذه بحفر " حفير " يتجمع فيه ماء الأمطار ، و دعا فيه الشيخ بالبركة و هو موجود حتى اليوم . كما إنتشر تلاميذ الشيخ الذين أجازهم كلُّ يعود إلى موطنه ليشيد " المسيد " . و المسيد هو المكان الذي يدرس فيه القرآن الكريم و علوم الدين للطلاب . و يحتوي المسيد بصفة أساسية على المسجد ، منزلة الضيوف ، ساحة المسيد ، مصلى النساء ، و مخزن المؤن .

الطريقة المكاشفية هي أحد أكبر الجماعات الصوفية في العالم الإسلامي، حيث يبلغ عدد أفرادها في إحصائية غير رسمية أجريت في العام 1995 على مايزيد على سبعة و نصف ملايين نسمة في المدن الرئيسية في السودان. أسهمت بصورة ضخمة في إدخال الدين الإسلامي في مختلف المناطق حول العالم . و بعد وفاة الشيخ عبدالباقي المكاشفي بالشكينيبة عام 1960 إستمر خلفاؤه في ذات النهج القويم الذي ورثوه عن والدهم الشيخ.

تعتبر الشكينيبة هي المقر العام للطريقة ، و للطريقة أيضاً فروع و مراكز كثيرة أكبرها المركز العام بولاية الخرطوم ، و مازال خلفاء الشيخ و هذه الفروع شعلة ساطعة تنير درب العلم و ترشد الناس إلى الحق و الطريق القويم ، و تشتعل نار القرآن لتضيئ الآفاق ، و لتشهد العالم بأسره على هؤلاء الرجال الذين بذلوا أنفسهم و كرسوا حياتهم لخدمة هذا الدين العظيم ، فكم هدى الله من الخلق على يديهم ، و كم حفظ جياد حفاظ كتاب الله الكريم في مسائدهم . و مازالوا يؤدوا ذات الرسالة و هم يسيرون في ذات الدرب .. درب الطريق .. الطريق إلى الله تعالى .
