الرُّقْيَةُ : اسْمٌ مِنْ الرَّقْيِ يُقَالُ رَقَى الرَّاقِي الْمَرِيضَ يَرْقِيهِ . قَالَ ابْنُ الْأَثِيرِ : الرُّقْيَةُ الْعَوْذَةُ الَّتِي يُرْقَى بِهَا صَاحِبُ الْآفَةِ كَالْحُمَّى وَالصَّرْعِ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ مِنْ الْآفَاتِ لِأَنَّهُ يُعَاذُ بِهَا , وَمِنْهُ قوله تعالى : { وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاقٍ } أَيْ مَنْ يَرْقِيهِ , تَنْبِيهًا عَلَى أَنَّهُ لَا رَاقِيَ يَرْقِيهِ فَيَحْمِيهِ , وَرَقَيْته رُقْيَةً أَيْ عَوَّذْته بِاَللَّهِ , وَالِاسْمُ الرُّقْيَا , وَالْمَرَّةُ رُقْيَةٌ , وَالْجَمْعُ : رُقًى . وَلَا يَخْرُجُ اصْطِلَاحُ الْفُقَهَاءِ لِلرُّقْيَةِ عَنْ الْمَعْنَى اللُّغَوِيِّ . وَالرُّقْيَةُ قَدْ تَكُونُ بِكِتَابَةِ شَيْءٍ وَتَعْلِيقِهِ , وَقَدْ تَكُونُ بِقِرَاءَةِ شَيْءٍ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ وَالْمُعَوِّذَاتِ وَالْأَدْعِيَةِ الْمَأْثُورَةِ
