وعندما دخل على بابا وجد المغارة مملوءة بالذهب الذى جمعه اللصوص من سرقاتهم المتوالية، فجمع ما استطاع حمله ثم عاد فرحا إلى بيته لينقلب به الحال تماما إلى الرخاء والثراء.
وفى اليوم التالى أرسل على بابا مرجانة لتستعير مكيالا من أخيه قاسم، وعندها شكت زوجة قاسم فى أمر على بابا لأنه لا يملك ما يكيل فلم يحتاج إلى المكيال؟!
فقامت بدهن المكيال بالعسل حتى يلتصق به بعض البقايا لما يكيل به على بابا حتى تعرف سره، وعندما عاد المكيال إليها مرة أخرى وجدت به عملة معدنية نقدية.
فطلبت من قاسم مراقبة على بابا حتى ينكشف أمره، وبالفعل سرعان ما عرف القاسم أمر المغارة ولكن جشعه جعله لا يأخذ فقط ما يستطيع حمله من الذهب، ولكنه أصبح يكنز كل ما لديه فى المغارة حتى عاد اللصوص، فوجدوه هناك فحبسوه ووعدوه بإطلاق سراحه إذا شرح لهم كيف عرف سر المغارة.
فأرشدهم قاسم على أخيه على بابا، واتفق قاسم مع زعيم اللصوص أن يتنكر فى زى تجار يحملون الهدايا إلى على بابا وهى عبارة عن أربعين قدرا مملوءة بالزيت فاستضافهم على بابا وأمر جوارية بإعداد الطعام، لكنهم لم يجدن زيتا فلجأت إحداهن إلى قدر التجار فاكتشفت أن الأربعين لصا مختبئين فيها، فأخبرت مرجانة على بابا على الفور، فأمرها بوضع حجر ثقيل على كل قدر حتى لا يستطيع اللصوص الخروج منها.
وحين أمر الزعيم اللصوص بالخروج لم يلبى أحدا نداءه فعرف أن سره قد انكشف، وعندما هم على بابا بقتلهم وجد أن من بينهم قاسم أخيه، وعرف أنه من وشى به لهم.
