تدور أحداث المسلسل حول عائلة كبيرة يقودها الأب الكبير نعمان، ولديه ثلاثة بنات وولد، وتحدث مفارقات وأحداث متشابكة حول العائلة والميراث وخلافه، والحياة بين العائلات والأبناء وذويهم.

تنقسم أحداث مسلسل "عائلة الحاج نعمان" إلى حقبتين مقسمين على جزء أول وثانى، وكل جزء 35 حلقة، والفترة الزمنية بين الجزأين ضمن الأحداث تعتبر 25 عاما، وذلك اعتمادًا على أحداث المسلسل والشخصية الرئيسية فى العمل والتى يجسدها تيم حسن، بحيث يجسد شخصيتين واحدة بالحقبة الزمنية الأولى من الحلقات، والتى تدور فى أواخر السبعينيات وهو الأب الذى يعانى من الإصابة بإعاقة ذهنية والهلاوس، التى تجعله يظلم زوجته الأولى هو وأخوته البنات، والتى تجسد دورها هبة مجدى ولم يعترف بحملها منه ويطردها، وتنتقل للعيش بإحدى قرى دمياط، والحقبة الثانية يموت الأب ويظهر تيم مرة أخرى بشخصية الابن الذى يعود للمطالبة بحقه وينتقم لوالدته.
