السماع الصوفي هو ذلك الفن الخاص الذي يُتداول في الزوايا، وذلك من أجل غايات تربوية وروحية محددة، وقد ارتبط ظهور هذا الفن بالتصوف منذ العهود الأولى له؛ أي منذ القرن الثالث الهجري، وكانت الغاية منه: التعبير عما يختلج في دواخل الصوفية من أحوال ومقامات، كما كان تعبيرا إشاريا عما وصلوه من أطوار في معارجهم الروحية، لذلك فهو نشاط يرتبط بالسياق الصوفي وله خصائصه وشرائطه المحددة.
