يفتح المقدم أو نائبه بقوله:

بصيغة معينة، ثم يرد عليه باقي الفقراء بنفس الصيغة، ثم يكررها المقدم ثم يتم ردها عليه كذلك.

- وبعد ذلك يشرع المقدم في قراءة القصيدة، وغالبا ما يقرؤها بيتا بيتا ليرد عليه الفقراء بعد كل بيت، وفي بعض الأحيان يقرأ بيتين أو ثلاث قبل أن يرد عليه الحضور...
