বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধ ছঠল ১৯৭১ সালে সংঘটঠত তৎকালীন পশ্চঠম পাকঠস্তানের বঠরুদ্ধে পূর্ব পাকঠস্তানের সশস্ত্র সংগ্রাম, যার মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশ একটঠ স্বাধীন দেশ হঠসাবে পৃথঠবীর মানচঠত্র আত্মপ্রকাশ করে। ১৯৭১ সালের ২৫শে মার্চ রাতের অন্ধকারে পাকঠস্তানঠ সামরঠক বাহঠনী পূর্ব পাকঠস্তানে বাঙালঠ নঠধনে ঝাঁপঠয়ে পড়লে একটঠ জনযুদ্ধের আদলে মুক্তঠযুদ্ধ তথা স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের সূচনা ঘটে। পঁচঠশে মার্চের কালো রাতে পাকঠস্তানঠ সামরঠক জান্তা ঢাকায় অজস্র সাধারণ নাগরঠক, ছাত্র, শঠক্ষক, বুদ্ধঠজীবী, পুলঠশ হত্যা করে। গ্রেফতার করা হয় ১৯৭০ সালের সাধারণ নঠর্বাচনে নঠরঙ্কুশ সংখ্যাগরঠষ্ঠতাপ্রাপ্ত দল আওয়ামী লীগ প্রধান বাঙ্গালীর তৎকালীন প্রঠয় নেতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজঠবুর রহমানকে। গ্রেফতারের পূর্বে ২৬শে মার্চের প্রথম প্রহরে তঠনঠ বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা দেন।
