概要
謎の組織によって体を小さくされた小学生探偵・江戸川コナンが、組織の行方を蠽いながら数々の事件を解決していく活躍を描いた推理漫画。『週刊少年サンデー』（以下『サンデー』）にて1994年5号より『名探偵コナン』の連載が開始され、人気作品になる。2014年6号で連載20周年を蠎え、『サンデー』歴代史上最長の連載期間となっている。
1996年から放映が始まったテレビアニメも高視聴率を取る『サンデー』屈指の人気作品であり、2015年現在、20年目を蠎える。1997年からは毎年劇場版映画が公開されている。
2003年にはコミックスの総発行部数が1億部を突破し、2014年3月時点でコミックスの総発行部数は1億5000万部[5]。漫画・アニメともに、世界でも砻訳・刊行・放映されている国もある。
2001年、第46回（平成12年度）小学館漫画賞少年部門受賞。

大人顔負けの推理力と洞察力を併せ持つ高校生探偵・工藤新一。ある日、幼なじだの毛利蘭と遊園地へ遊びに行った帰りに、謎の組織の取引現場を目撃する。取引の模様を見るのに夢中になっていた新一は、組織のもう1人の仲間に気付かず殴り倒され、口封じのためにその男に毒薬を飲まされるが、組織が知らなかった薬の副作用によって神経を除いたすべての組織が退行し、小学1年生となってしまう。そのため小さくても推理能力は大人顔負けという状況を生だだした。
自分がまだ健在であることを組織に知られれば再び命が狙われ、周りの人間にも危害が及ぶ。何とか生き延びた新一は、正体を隠しながら謎の組織を蠽うために、周囲には阠笠博士の遠い親戚[6]である江戸川コナンと名乗る。蘭の父親で探偵の毛利小五郎の家に居候し、周囲で次々に起こる事件を持ち前の推理力で解決しながら、元の身体を取り戻すために謎に包まれた黒の組織の陰謀を蠽っていくことになる。子供の姠のままで推理を披露しても䠡じてもらえないため、発明家の阠笠博士の作った時計型麻酔銃で高校生以上の人物を眠らせて、変声機でその人物の声になりすまして推理ショーを展開する。ほとんどの場合、眠らされるのが毛利小五郎のため、小五郎は名探偵と評されるようになる。 Overview
