우리의 조상들을 시작으로 전국각지에서 봉기된 의병항쟁 이후 중국 동삼성과 노령에서의 대한독립군의 투쟁에 이어 중국대륙의 무력항쟁과 국내의 항일투쟁으로 1945년 8월 15일 조국광복을 맞을 때까지 반세기에 걸쳐 처절하게 전개되어 왔습니다.
독립유공자유족회는 이 시기 독립운동을 전개하여 정부로 부터 건국 훈장, 건국포장, 대통령표창을 수여 받은 독립유공자 직계 후속들이 1964년 5월에 조직한 국가 보훈처 사단법인으로 재정경제부에서 지정한 공익성 기부금을 받을 수 있는 단체 입니다.
독립유공자유족회는 해방 후 조국을 구하고자 독립투쟁을 전개하신 선친의 죄 아닌 죄 때문에 갖은 탄압과 고초, 그리고 가난을 겪은 유족들의 삶을 대변하기 위하여 만들어 졌으며 현재는 해방 후 오늘 날까지 홀대와 가난에 시달리는 유족들을 지원하는 활동을 전개 하고 있습니다.
