◆ "속뜻사전"은 어떠한 사전인가?
기존의 국어사전에서 산포도(散布度)를 찾으면 '도수 분포의 모양을 조사할 때에, 변량의 흩어져 있는 정도를 가리키는 값'이라고 나오지만, "속뜻사전"에서는 '흩어져[散] 펼쳐져[布] 있는 정도[度]'라는 속뜻을 먼저 알려준 다음에 국어사전에서 나오는 설명을 붙여줌으로써 한자어를 쉽게 이해하도록 해줍니다.

또한 '타원(楕圓)'이라는 단어는 일반 국어사전에서는 '평면 위의 두 정점에서의 거리의 합이 일정한 점의 자취'라고 되어 있어 빨리 이해하기 어렵지만, "속뜻사전"에서는 '길쭉한 [楕] 동그라미 [圓]'라는 속뜻을 징검다리처럼 놓아주어 쉽게 뜻을 이해하도록 해줍니다.

대부분의 한자어는 실질 형태소로 조합된 합성어이기 때문에 낱낱 글자의 뜻을 통하여 ‘속뜻’ (morphological motivation)을 찾아낼 수 있으며, 속뜻은 낱말 의미(정의)를 쉽게 이해시켜 주는 징검다리 역할을 합니다.

속뜻을 밝혀서 낱말의 근거, 이유, 유래 등을 설명해줌으로써 '이해→사고→기억'의 3단계 학습으로 어휘력을 크게 높이자는 것이 이 사전의 가장 근본적인 목적입니다.

기존의 국어사전과 달리 사전의 뜻풀이 방식을 확 바ꠈ으로써, 모든 과목의 공부방법을 혁명적으로 개선시킬 수 있도록 한 사전입니다.

우리말은 한자어가 70%를 차지하고 있으며, 학생들이 한자어의 음을 알아도 뜻을 정확히 모르는 경우가 많습니다. 한자어의 뜻을 정확히 모르면 오래 공부해도 성적이 쉽게 오르지 않으며, 자신의 생각을 글이나 말로 표현하는데도 어려움을 겪게 됩니다.
