Buku fenomenal yang memang perlu dibaca oleh kaum muslimin yang mengungkapkan kepada kita masa-masa keemasan Islam dan kaum Muslimin. Semua peristiwa direkam secara apik oleh al-Hafizh Ibnu Katsir dalam bukunya ini.
Beliau menyusunnya berdasarkan kronologis waktu dan peristiwa. Salah satu kelebihan kitab beliau ini daripada buku-buku sejarah lainnya adalah referensi dan sumber-sumber sejarah yang menjadi patokan beliau. Beliau bersandar kepada referensi terpercaya dan sumber-sumber sejarah yang berasal dari riwayat-riwayat yang shahih dan bisa dipertanggung jawabkan.
Beliau selalu bersandar kepada al-Qur'an dan riwayat-riwayat hadits yang marfu' ataupun mauquf, baik hadits tersebut shahih ataupun hasan.
Referensi beliau (Ibnu Katsir) dalam penulisan kitab kolosal al-Bidayah wan Nihayah ini adalah sebagai berikut :
- Al-Qur'anul karim dan kitab-kitab tafsir bil ma’tsur (tafsir dengan atsar
maupun hadits), kemudian asbabun nuzul (sebab turun ayat).
- Sunnah-sunnah yang diriwayatkan dari Nabi saw baik yang terdapat dalam
kitab-kitab Shahih (yang memuat hadits shahih saja, pent.), kitab Sunan, Musnad,
maupun Jami'.
- Atsar yang dinukil dari perkataan sahabat dan para tabi'in.
- Kitab-kitab yang terdahulu seperti: Taurat dan Injil, namun beliau akanmemilih-milih dari kitab tersebut sebagaimana yang beliau sebutkan lebih dari sekali, "Berita-berita yang boleh kita riwayatkan sebagaimana sabda Nabi 'Silahkan menyampaikan riwayat dari Bani Israil tidaklah mengapa, namun siapa saja yang berdusta atas namaku maka hendaklah mangambil tempat di neraka'
- Di antara referensi beliau dalam penulisan sirah: Kitab-kitab Maghazi nya Dalail an-Nubuwwah, khususnya kitab Maghazi Ibnu Ishaq, dan Musa bin Uqbah, ataupun kitab Dalail an-Nubuwwah karya Abu Nu'aim, ataupun Dalilun Nabi karya al-Baihaqi. Disebabkan begitu luasnya bacaan dan hafalan beliau terhadap sunnah nabi, sehingga seolah-olah beliau benar-benar mengusai semua yang terdapat dalam kitab-kitab Shahih, Sunan, Musnad, Mushannaf, dan kitab-kitab tafsir bil ma'tsur yang berkaitan dengan tema-tema yang terdapat dalam sirah nabi.
Adapun referensi beliau dalam menulis kejadian-kejadian penting dan wafatnya para tokoh adalah kitab-kitab yang telah disebutkan tadi, khu-susnya penukilan dari kitab Tarikh ar-Rusul wal Muluk karya Ibnu Jarir ath-Thabari (wafat 310 H), Tarikh Madinah ad-Dimasyqi karya Ibnu Asakir (wafat 571 H), kitab al-Muntazham karya Ibn al-Jauzi (wafat 597), kitab al-Kami lfi at-Tarikh karya Ibn al-Atsir (wafat 630 H).
Kami berharap, semoga kehadiran buku ini dapat menambah wawasan sejarah para pembaca sekalian. Khususnya bagi yang ingin mengetahui secara lebih akurat peristiwa-peristiwa yang terjadi di masa-masa keemasan Islam.

Phenomenal book that does need to be read by the Muslims who reveal to us the golden age of Islam and the Muslims. All events are recorded in a slick by al-Haafiz Ibn Kathir in his book.
He arranged chronologically by time and events. One of the advantages of the book he is than other history books is a reference and historical resources that become his benchmark. He relied on a reliable reference and historical resources that come from the narrations are authentic and can be justified.
He has always relied on the Qur'an and the hadith narrations marfu 'or mauquf, whether the hadith is saheeh or hasan.
Reference he (Ibn Kathir) in the writing of the book of colossal al-Bidayah Nihayah wan is as follows:
- Al-Qur'anul karim and books of tafsir bil ma'tsur (commentary by atsar
or hadith), then asbab al-nuzul (because down paragraph).
- Sunnah-Sunnah narrated from the Prophet both contained in
books Sahih (authentic hadith that contains it, Ed.), books of Sunan, Musnad,
and Jami '.
- Atsar quoted from the words of his friend and the tabi'in.

- Among his references in the writing sirah: The books of his Maghazi Dalail an-Nubuwwah, especially the book of Maghazi Ibn Ishaq and Musa bin Uqbah, or book an-Nubuwwah Dalail of Abu Nu'aim, or Dalilun Prophet of al-Bayhaqi. Due to the breadth of his reading and memorization of the sunnah of the prophet, so as if he really mastered all contained in the books of Saheeh Sunan, Musnad, musannaf, and books of tafsir bil ma'tsur related to themes contained in sirah prophet.
The reference him in writing, important events and the death of the characters in the books mentioned earlier, Khu-ly penukilan of the book Tarikh al-Mulk wal works Rusul Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari (d 310 AH), Date Medina ad- Dimasyqi Ibn Asakir (died 571 AH), the book of al-Muntazham Ibn al-Jauzi (died 597), the book of al-We LFI at-Tarikh Ibn al-Athir (died 630 H).
We hope that the presence of this book can add insight to the history of the reader as well. Especially for those who want to know more accurately the events that occur in the golden age of Islam.
