GO BEYOND PAPER
Turn your phone or tablet into a book with the free Kindle app—so you can read anytime, anywhere. Explore these reading features in the Kindle app:

- Read your way. Customize your text size, font type, margins, text alignment, and orientation (portrait or landscape)—and choose whether to turn pages from left to right or continuously scroll. Read comfortably day and night with adjustable brightness and background colors. Go to the Aa menu in your book to get started.

- Look up words, people, and places while you read. Breeze through words you don’t know and characters you can’t remember with the built-in dictionary, X-Ray, Wikipedia lookup, instant translations, and search within your book. Simply tap and hold a word to view its definition, or use the Google and Wikipedia links to get more information.

- Track your reading progress. See what percent of the book you’ve read, real page numbers (for most top titles), and how much time you have left in the chapter or book based on your actual reading speed.

- Bookmark places you want to revisit, and make highlights and take notes throughout your book. Open My Notebook to see all your notes in the same place.

- Hop, skim, and jump with Page Flip. Flip between pages or get a bird’s-eye view of your book with Page Flip—don’t worry, we’ll save your place.

- Zoom in on high-definition color images in Kindle books, magazines, comics, and manga.

- Sync your books across devices. When you’re reading a book, the Kindle app will automatically sync where you left off—along with any bookmarks, highlights, or notes—so you can start reading on one device and pick up where you left off on another.

- When you can’t read, listen. Switch seamlessly from reading your Kindle book to listening to the Audible book, all within the Kindle app.

- Get notified when authors you love have new releases, or when books you’re interested in go on deal.

Although I like that there are finally italicized words, I have a couple of issues with the update. The margins are too big now; I feel like I'm constantly having to swipe to the next page (with the font as small as it gets!). Also, the dictionary does this really irritating thing where the words overlap so that they are illegible and it kind of makes the dictionary useless. Other than that, the update is fine.

One of the buggiest apps I've ever used. It crashes every day at least once. Am on a Samsung s6. Have no choice though as I buy my books through Amazon. EDIT: Update seems to have helped.

The newest update screwed everything up. The app keeps shutting down seconds after opening. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling it. Too frustrating for me

The app for Android has some issues. When using audible narration, if I leave the app to check email or whatever, then come back to it, the narration starts back at where I was when I last opened the app. It's really annoying. I don't have that problem on my ipad. If this is fixed I'll change to 5 star rating.

Please remove the Wikipedia and translation or let us disable them. The Wikipedia only shows "no Wikipedia results were found in your selection". What's the point?? It did nothing but annoying me. I just want to highlight some lines and never asked for the Wikipedia! Anyway, you guys won't listen.

App was updated and now I can't open the books. All I get is a brown box. The add still work though. Please revert to previous version as it worked!

Always slow and clunky on my nVidia Shield, now won't even open. Works fine on my phone, great! But disappointing that this app has never worked properly on a popular high-end tablet. Please fix!

Update 2-3-2017: The Amazon reading app is horrible. It will not respond after today's update. Won't even open. This doesn't just happen on one unit but on all of the ones I use. It's been bad for a long time but is now worse than ever. I used to buy my ebooks from Amazon but now I use Nook or Kobo unless I can't get it from them and REALLY want to read the book. Frequently crashes and also takes forever to open a book. My husband and I have had this problem no matter which of our several units we use. This has been going on for some time, has been reported, and does not get fixed. Latest update is also indicating I have invalid items and must download them again. When I try to do that I am told I must repurchase numerous books in my library. I am now purchasing my e-books from BARNES & NOBLE using my Nook.

After a long while not being able to update it finally did allow and decided let me try to buy a book. But no access to account info from kindle app, why? The struggle continues...

I have two tablets - one , an original Kindle Fire and a Samsung Galaxy, the latter my go-to device. I read e-books on both. The Kindle never has a problem with synchronization but the Samsung is always behind. It will tell me I am at the last location when I am not if I previously read on the Kindle. Other than that, the android reader has more features that make it superior.
