La Banda El Recodo se inicia con la inquietud del joven músico Cruz Lizarraga, quien, además de fundarla, le dio su actual fisonomía estableciendo el estilo, la forma y el número de sus integrantes actuales y asociándola de manera indeleble con el lugar de su origen. El Recodo, en efecto, es el nombre del pueblo donde nació esta banda de instrumentos de viento en el estado de Sinaloa, sobre el Pacífico mexicano. Tal como sucedía en diversos países de América Latina, la banda era una formación semi clásica de músicos, generalmente voluntarios, que tocaban piezas sinfónicas, marciales y populares para divertir e instruir a la población local en las plazas de cada pueblo. En ese formato inicial fue parte de la herencia cultural que dejaron en México los marineros europeos cuyas naves anclaron en el litoral oeste del país, especialmente en Mazatlán, el puerto más próximo a El Recodo, el lugar donde nació. El Recodo, indeed, is the name of the town where this band of wind instruments was born in the state of Sinaloa on the Mexican Pacific. As was the case in several countries in Latin America, the band was a semi classically trained musicians usually volunteers, who played symphonic, martial and folk to amuse and instruct local people in the streets of every village pieces.
