Kurikulum 2013 dirancang untuk mengembangkan kompetensi peserta didik secara utuh, tidak hanya aspek pengetahuannya tetapi juga sikap dan keterampilannya.
Pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) sebagai salah satu matapelajaran dalam kurikulum 2013 juga berorientasi pada kompetensi yang utuh tersebut. Pelajaran IPS merupakan integrasi dari empat mata pelajaran yaitu geografi, ekonomi, sosiologi dan sejarah. Keempat mata pelajaran tersebut dipadukan oleh konsep ruang dan interaksi antar ruang serta pengaruhnya terhadap kehidupan manusia dalam aspek ekonomi, sosial, budaya dan pendidikan.
Dalam pembahasannya, peserta didik dikenalkan dengan konsep ruang yang diwujudkan dalam materi tentang letak Indonesia, potensi sumberdaya alam, kemaritiman, kependudukan, kondisi alam, flora dan fauna Indonesia. Kondisi dan potensi yang berbeda antar ruang kemudian mengakibatkan adanya interaksi antar ruang di Indonesia. Interaksi antar ruang kemudian mempengaruhi kehidupan ekonomi, sosial, budaya dan pendidikan.
Buku ini disusun untuk mendukung implementasi kurikulum 2013 yang mengedepankan aktivitas belajar peserta didik. Karena itu, buku ini dilengkapi dengan aktivitas individu dan kelompok sebagai panduan bagi peserta didik dalam melakukan kegiatan pembelajaran. Guru dapat memodifkasi dan mengembangkan aktivitas tersebut sesuai dengan kondisi dan kebutuhan lokal daerahnya masing-masing. Intinya, peserta didik diberi ruang untuk melakukan eksplorasi permasalahan dan alternatif pemecahannya sesuai dengan kemampuannya melalui langkah-langkah ilmiah. Lessons Social Sciences (IPS) as one course from the curriculum in 2013 is also oriented towards the competencies intact. Social studies is the integration of the four subjects namely geography, economics, sociology and history. Four subject areas are combined by the concept of space and the interaction between space and its influence on human life in economic, social, cultural and educational.
In the discussion, the students were introduced to the concept of space that is embodied in the material about the location of Indonesia, natural resources, maritime, population, natural conditions, fl ora and fauna of Indonesia. Conditions and different potentials between the space later resulted in the interaction between space in Indonesia. The interaction between space and then affect the economic, social, cultural and educational.
The book is organized to support the implementation of the 2013 curriculum emphasizes learning activities of students. Therefore, this book comes with the activities of individuals and groups as a guide for learners in the learning activities. Teachers can memodifkasi and develop such activities in accordance with local conditions and needs of their respective regions. Essentially, learners are given space to explore the issues and alternative solutions appropriate to their ability through scientific measures.
