Mede 11,5 centímetros de comprimento e pesa cerca de 16,5 gramas (macho).
O macho tem as partes superiores, garganta e peito azul-metálicos,
contrastando com a barriga castanha, e a fêmea é olivácea nas partes superiores e cinzenta nas inferiores,
com o crisso ferrugíneo e com o boné (píleo) azul, que nos imaturos é verde.
Hábitos
É comum no interior e bordas de florestas, à altura da copa.
Vive solitário ou em pequenos grupos, associando-se com frequência a bandos mistos de aves.
Distribuição Geográfica
Alagoas e da Bahia e Minas Gerais em direção oeste até o Mato Grosso e em direção sul até o Rio Grande do Sul.
