A guaracava-cinzenta é uma ave passeriforme da família Tyrannidae.

Nome Científico

Seu nome científico significa: do (grego) muia = mosca; e de pagis,
pagë = armadilha, cilada; e do (latim) canus = cinza; e -ceps = cabeça, parte de cima da cabeça.

Características

Mede entre 12 e 12,5 centímetros de comprimento e pesa entre 10 e 11 gramas.
Ainda mais discreta do que as espécies do gênero Elaenia, é um pouco menor do que E. chiriquensis.
O formato geral do corpo lembra essa espécie, tendo as cores mais contrastadas.
Uma área clara começa no bico e estende-se até acima dos olhos. Nas asas, três faixas claras,
com as penas longas das asas de borda da mesma cor.
A cor dominante nas costas é olivácea; cabeça mais acinzentada.
Embaixo das penas da cabeça há uma listra amarela,
cuja observação é muito rara, por não eriçar o topete com frequência.
Apresenta dimorfismo sexual, sendo que o macho tem o dorso,
nuca e cabeça de coloração cinza azulada e seu píleo e barras alares brancas enquanto que
a fêmea apresenta o dorso e nuca verde oliváceos,
cabeça cinza com o píleo e as barras alares amareladas (Ridgely & Tudor, 2009).

Hábitos

Vive na copa e bordas das matas secas e matas ciliares mais extensas.
Associa-se aos bandos mistos de insetívoros de copa, usando as galhadas abaixo da folhagem.
Geralmente está em casais, várias vezes emitindo o chamado característico.

The gray-guaracava passeriforme is a bird's Thamnophilidae family.
