The hedgehog is a Passeriform in the family Icteridae.
It is also known as suffered (Ceará), concriz, joão-pinto and suffering.

Scientific name
Its scientific name means: do (Greek) ikterus = yellow; and (tupi) jamacaí = bird that eats caterpillars. - Yellow bird that eats caterpillars.

Characteristics:
It measures between 23 and 26 centimeters in length. The male has an average weight of 67.3 grams and the female 58.5 grams.
General orange and black coloring. It has a black hood, black back and wings. The wings have a visible white spot on the secondary remiges. Black tail. Neck with orange collar. Lower portion of the chest, belly and skin with an intense orange color. The face does not have the bluish skin characteristic of other species of the genus Icterus. The eyes are clear and the beak is strong, pointed and presents the base of the mandible in a bluish color. Gray tarsi and feet.
Juveniles have similar plumage to adults, however their color is yellow, not orange.

SPECIES WITHOUT SEXUAL DIMORPHISM

Subspecies
Monotypic species (no subspecies are recognized).

food
Omnivorous. The corruptor feeds on fruits, seeds, insects, spiders and other small invertebrates. Enjoys the sap of flowers and the fruits of the cactus. It also eats the yellow ipe and mulungu flowers. The latter makes your plumage a very strong orange tone. It feeds at various heights, with preference for the lowest vegetation. Like other members of his family, he uses an interesting technique to get food, known as “space”, “gape” in English, which consists of inserting its fine beak into a fruit, curled leaves or rotten wood, for example, opening the jaws , thus making a cavity to spy and catch the hidden food.

corruption eating
In many places, corruption has become a major problem. In Linhares, for example, this bird did not exist before and appeared quite recently. Since it can feed on the eggs of other birds, it often invades other people's nests.

reproduction
It reaches sexual maturity from 18 to 24 months. Sometimes he builds his own nest, but he usually occupies another's nest to breed (eg: bem-te-vi, leather-coat, john of clay, john of wood and xexéu), shooing off the owners and playing their young to the ground, but it is not completely parasitic, as it hatches and creates its own offspring. Each litter usually has between 2 and 3 eggs, having 2 to 3 litter per season. Puppies are born after 14 days.

Habits
It is common in areas of the caatinga and dry open areas, where it lands in cacti, and also at the edges of forests and clearings, in the most humid places; in the driest places, such as the northeastern caatinga, he eagerly seeks water sources, both to quench his thirst and to bathe. Lives in pairs. It does not usually accompany mixed flocks of birds.

Geographic distribution
Found exclusively in Brazil, occurring in all states of the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast; east of Pará (only recently, from Maranhão, benefited by deforestation), extending to the west to Goiás and Tocantins.
