Beaked
Also known as northern buzzard (SP), black beak is a passerine bird in the family Thraupidae.
It inhabits flooded pastures, paths with bushes, edges of forest capons, marshes, rivers and lakes, apparently in places close to the water, especially where there is razor grass (Hypolytrum pungens), monkey razor (Hypolytrum schraerianum) or tiririca (Cyperus rotundus) its staple foods in nature. He also appreciates rice, which contributes a lot to its disappearance, victimized by pesticides. Due to the appreciation of his singing for tournaments, he is the target of animal traffickers, which makes his preservation status CR (Critical) according to IBAMA.

Characteristics
It measures between 14.5 and 16.5 centimeters in length (Jaramillo, 2014). As adults, males are black in color, with a white spot on the outside of their wings. The underside of the wings has nuances of white. Its beak is white or spotted on most boll weevils. Females and puppies are brown in color.
Its singing resembles the sound of a flute. As for the corner and the color of the beak, regional and individual variations occur.
Young males begin to acquire adult plumage at around 12 months of age.

Subspecies
It has two subspecies:

Sporophila maximiliani maximiliani (Cabanis, 1851) - occurs (or occurred) in central and eastern Brazil (North of Goiás, Minas Gerais, south of Piauí and Bahia and south to Mato Grosso and North of São Paulo). Critically threatened.
Sporophila maximiliani magnirostris (Phelps Sr & Phelps, Jr, 1950) - occurs in eastern Venezuela (southwest of Sucre and south to the Amacuro Delta and northern Bolívar State along the south bank of the Orinoco River), western Guyana and east of French Guiana to the North of Brazil (Amapá and North of Pará). Beak about 20% bigger than maximiliani. Wings and tail slightly larger than maximiliani.
