The tiziu (scientific name: Volatinia jacarina) is a neotropical bird in the family thraupidae that occurs from southern Mexico to Argentina / Brazil. Observed in all regions of Brazil, being very common in areas of anthropomorphized vegetation.

Description:
Sexually dimorphic, as a youngster, the male has a brown color, and the plumage of males has a pattern of Azul Rei (rare among birds), where males become conspicuous during the reproductive season with plumage of bluish-black coloration with subaxillary spots. white, after the reproductive period males have cryptic plumage, similar to that of females of brown color.


Habits:
This species is seen in pairs during the mating season, usually in open areas, savannas, fields, grasslands, parks, gardens, savanna, cultivated fields, on the edge of the swamps, near low-rise homes and capons in South America, except in the extreme south .

Outside the breeding season, these birds gather in flocks that can reach dozens of individuals, mixing with other species of birds that also feed on seeds.

However, due to the winter in regions of the Southeast and South of Brazil, such as São Paulo, birds migrate to warmer regions.


Reproduction:
Its breeding season in the cerrado coincides with the rainy season, from November to March where the availability of resources is greater, mainly insects, an essential source of proteins for the growth of young, and grass seeds, the main source of food for adults. At the end of the breeding season, most individuals leave the region, returning only at the next breeding season. However, in Pará, for example, reproduction can last all year.

They have a reproductive system of social monogamy, with a high frequency of FEP. Both sexes participate in the construction of the nest and supply the offspring. The choice of nesting sites is related to the complexity of the micro-habitat.
In general, nests are spatially aggregated, which leads to a local increase in predation, which is considered the main responsible for failures in the reproduction of the species. In an experiment with Tiziu it was observed that the limitation of food in the field causes changes in the frequency of dispute for territories, frequency of visits by females, number of pups generated in each litter, growth rate of the puppies, as well as changes in the rate of predation.
