DIY Hair Bow Tutorial ideas

1) Videos: When you first start, you should have a tutorial or instructional video to watch. Make sure to watch the entire video, from start to finish AT LEAST once.
2) Start Small: Keep your focus on a small, simple hair bow at first. There is less material to get 'tangled' up in to. The more simple or basic bow will help you get accustomed to working with the materials.
3) Practice: When you have watched the video, and you are ready to start, go through the video again and practice with your materials. Don't actually glue anything yet. You can use clips to keep the pieces together, if need be.
4) Materials: Try to avoid slippery ribbon at first. If it is slipping around in your fingers, it will become frustrating FAST. For example, satin is beautiful---but slippery, and expensive. So try for a stiffer ribbon material at first. Make sure you have selected the materials you need before starting, and have them at your fingertips!
5) Test it out: If you are not proficient in using a hot glue gun (I was NOT), test it out on scrap pieces of cloth first. Figure out how hard to press the trigger and how much will come out based on that amount of pressure. Using too much glue can destroy the fabric of your bow and worse, can drip and burn you!
6) Check your tools: Make sure your scissors are sharp! They should be clean as well. Any oils or dirt on the edges of the scissor blades will easily transfer to the ribbon as you are cutting it. Be sure any other tools you opt to use are also in great condition.

You want to be sure that you are properly prepared before beginning making hair bows. Yes, you may make mistakes as you learn. That is normal when you are trying something new. But, if you can minimize the amount of frustration and mistakes, you will enjoy the process far more. And, you will feel proud of your accomplishments!
