Dr J, Julius Erving In Review

This app features Julius Erving, better known as Dr. J, one of the most electrifying basketball players of all time. Dr. J garnered mass audience appeal and filled arenas around the country wherever he played. Upon announcing his retirement in 1986, every game was sold out with many of the opposing teams paying tribute to one of the greatest players ever. Magic Earvin Johnson, once commented that after Julius Erving made a shot, he didn't know whether to inbound the ball or give it back to Erving to see if he could make the same shot again. Fans knew that during the game they would see something spectacular from Dr. J, often times cameras flashing in the background as Dr. J put on an exhibition of flying through the air and dunking the ball. Many of his shots still make the highlight-reel today and perhaps will never be duplicated, such as the legendary and unforgettable "Baseline Move, from behind the backboard reverse layup and another better known as "Rock The Baby” slam dunk over the LA Lakers, Michael Cooper. Once considered to be the ambassador of the NBA, in 1994 Erving was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the 40 most important athletes of all time. Julius Erving was a 3 time Most Valuable Player, 3 NBA/ABA Scoring Titles and fifth all-time in scoring. During his 5 seasons in the ABA, Erving won 2 ABA Titles as a member of the New Jersey Nets prior to the ABA-NBA merger and in 1982-83 he won an NBA Title by his team sweeping the Lakers in the NBA Finals. One of the 50 Greatest Players Ever, in 1993 Erving was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and in 2004, he was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. Erving retired in 1987 with his Number 6 Jersey retired by the Philadelphia 76ers and his Number 32 Jersey retired by the New Jersey Nets (Brooklyn Nets).
