criado para suprir a necessidade por novas tecnologias para uso no radioamadorismo. A pesquisa envolveu fabricantes Japoneses de rádio e outros observadores. A Icom forneceu equipamentos usados para
desenvolvimento e testes. Rádios e repetidoras D-Star foram testados exaustivamente e agora estão disponíveis para uso público.
D-Star é um novo modo de transmissão para comunicações em voz digital e dados. É uma forma eficiente e inovadora, criada por radioamadores para os radioamadores. Através de links via Internet ou mesmo microcoondas (1.2GHz), é possível interconectar repetidoras D-Star formando uma rede mudial de comunicação entre radioamadores.
O Sistema D-Star oferece recursos e funcionalidades inéditas que incrementam a eficiência de nossas comunicações. O nome D-Star vem de Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio, que em português significa Tecnologias Digitais Inteligentes para o Radio Amador. D-Star is a standard that was published in 2001. It is the result of three years of research sponsored by the Japanese government and administered by the JARL (Japan Amateur Radio Association). It was created to meet the need for new technologies for use in amateur radio. The research involved Japanese radio manufacturers and other observers. The Icom supplied equipment used for development and testing. Radios and repeaters D-Star were thoroughly tested and are now available for public use.
