Fathers of the Third Century (Ante-Nicene v.4) APPLICATION description

Fathers of the Third Century (Ante-Nicene Fathers volume 4)
This is volume 4 of the Ante-Nicene Fathers, the fathers of the early Christian church who lived before the 4th century.

This volume contains works from the following authors:

1) Tertullian (155 - 240 AD): a prolific Christian author from Carthage in Roman North Africa. He was the first Christian author to produce an extensive corpus of Latin Christian literature. He also was one of the first Christian apologists and he wrote extensively against heresy. Tertullian has been called "the father of Latin Christianity" as well as "the founder of Western theology."

2) Minucius Felix

Marcus Minucius Felix (died c. 250 AD in Rome) was one of the earliest of the Latin apologists for Christianity. He is exclusively known by his Octavius, a dialogue on Christianity between the pagan Caecilius Natalis and the Christian Octavius Januarius, written for educated non-Christians.

3) Commodian

Commodianus was a Christian Latin poet, who flourished about AD 250. He was originally a heathen, but was converted to Christianity when older felt called upon to instruct the ignorant in the truth. He was the author of two extant Latin poems, Instructiones and Carmen apologeticum.

4) Origen

Origen of Alexandria (184 - 253 AD), was an early Christian scholar, ascetic, and theologian who was born and spent most of his career in Alexandria. He was a prolific writer who wrote roughly 2,000 treatises in many branches of theology, including textual criticism, biblical exegesis and hermeneutics, homiletics, and spirituality. He was one of the most influential figures in early Christian theology. Many have described him as "the greatest genius the early church ever produced."
