If you are interviewing for a new job, you must understand the way people already dress at the company. If you can gather intelligence on the attire worn by women who are holding down the same or similar job you want, it's important to know what the company thinks you should wear.

We all know that it is appropriate to wear jeans at some jobs, shorts at others and high-powered business suits at others. Women have jobs at all levels in all industries! If you wear a skirt, make sure it is not too tight and that the hem hits below your knee. If you wear a blouse or top, make sure there is no cleavage. In keeping with the simple theme, you should avoid ruffles, tufts, folds and decorations that ask for too much attention. The entire focus during the interview should be on you and what you have to say.
What about color? Again, simple basic colors are best. Black, navy, and dark green are good choices for cool weather. In hot weather or in hotter climates, beige, tan, gray and light blue will be good choices. Select simple fabrics that are smooth and have no activity going on with them. In other words, prints and patterns such as plaids are distracting. Remember, you want the entire focus to be on you.
If you really really need the job, keep it simple. It's not worth taking a chance. Unless you are applying for a job as a suit model, your employer will likely prefer that you fit in and are not distracting.
