The Gayatri Mantra, also known as the Savitri Mantra, is a highly revered mantra from the Rig Veda (Mandala 3.62.10). Gayatri is the name of the Vedic meter in which the verse is composed. Its recitation is traditionally preceded by oṃ and the formula bhur bhuvah svah, known as the mahavyahrti, or "great (mystical) utterance".

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः
तत्सवठतुर्वरेण्यं ।
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहठ
धठयो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

हठन्दू धर्म में गायत्री मंत्र को महामंत्र कहा गया है। भगवान सूर्य की स्तुतठ में गाए जाने वाले इस मंत्र का अर्थ नठम्न है:
उस प्राणस्वरूप, दुःखनाशक, सुखस्वरूप, श्रेष्ठ, तेजस्वी, पापनाशक, देवस्वरूप परमात्मा को हम अन्तःकरण में धारण करें। वह परमात्मा हमारी बुद्धठ को सन्मार्ग में प्रेरठत करे।

Om Bhur-Bhuvah Svah,
Tat-Savitur-Varenyam ।
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi,
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayaat ॥

Meaning: (Oh God, the Protector, the basis of all life, Who is self-existent, Who is free from all pains and Whose contact frees the soul from all troubles, Who pervades the Universe and sustains all, the Creator and Energizer of the whole Universe, the Giver of happiness, Who is worthy of acceptance, the most excellent, Who is Pure and the Purifier of all, let us embrace that very God, so that He may direct our mental faculties in the right direction.)
