Die Brüder Grimm sind wohl die bekanntesten Deutschen und ihre vor fast 200 Jahren erschienenen „Kinder- und Hausmärchen“ haben sie in und um Kassel gesammelt. Heute gehören die „Kinder- und
Hausmärchen“ zum UNESCO-Dokumentenerbe.
Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm nannten ihre Kasseler Jahre selbst die fruchtbarste und schaffensreichste Zeit ihres Lebens und bezeichneten Kassel als ihre Heimat. In Bezug auf dieses kulturelle Erbe nennt sich die Region rund um Kassel „GrimmHeimat NordHessen“
Die GrimmHeimat NordHessen ist eine weitgehend unberührte Mittelgebirgslandschaft und liegt mitten in Deutschland, von allen Richtungen bequem per Auto (A7, A5, A4) oder per ICE (Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe) zu erreichen.
Sie bietet hervorragende Voraussetzungen für sanften und erholsamen Aktivurlaub wie Wandern, Radfahren oder Kanu: Zahlreiche Fluss- und Bahntrassenradwege, allen voran der mit 4 Sternen zertifizierte Fulda-Radweg R1 machen die GrimmHeimat NordHessen zu einem Geheimtipp für Genussradler. Wer es sportlicher mag, erkundet mit dem Mountainbike die hügeligen Wälder. Hochwertige, qualitätsgeprüfte Wander- und Weitwanderwege durchziehen die GrimmHeimat NordHessen, ideal auch für Halbtages- und Tagestouren. Mit besonders intensiven Naturerlebnissen lockt der Nationalpark Kellerwald-Edersee mit Weltnaturerbestätte. Die riesigen intakten Buchenwälder wurden 2011 in das UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe aufgenommen.
