Crash is in a position to defeat enemies by either jumping on them or employing a spinning attack that launches them. Crash can lose a life if he's hit by associate enemy or obstacle, or falls into a bottomless pit. Crash will shield himself by collection Aku Aku masks, that shield Crash from one hit from associate enemy or obstacle (but not pits or different instant-death obstacles). Crash will hold onto 2 masks at a time and, upon collection a 3rd mask, can gain temporary strength. the game ends once the player runs out of lives, with a lot of lives attained by finding further life things or by collection one hundred Wumpa Fruit.
