Habib Segaf bin Hasan bin Ahmad Baharun, S.HI, M.HI adalah putra kedua dari Habib Hasan Baharun, pendiri pondok pesantren Darullughah Wadda’wah, Raci Pasuruan. Ia lahir pada 7 juni 1974. Mengawali
pendidikan agama di Darullughah Wadda’wah, Bangil Pasuruan yang diasuh oleh sang ayah, Habib Hasan bin Ahmad Baharun dari tahun 1981-1994. Ia juga mengikuti pendidikan umum dari Sekolah Dasar sampai
PerguruanTinggi. Sempat ia membantu pendidikan di pondok selama dua tahun.Baru kemudian melanjutkan pendidikan ke Ribath Madinah yang diasuh oleh Habib Zein bin Smith dari tahun 1994-1998. Sebenarnya
ia yang akan diberangkatkan ke tempat Habib Umar Al-Hafidz (Darul Mustofa), tapi yang dipilih adalah kakaknya yakni Habib Shodiq.
Selama di Madinah, ia merasakan kesan yang mendalam. Apalagi di tempat Rasulullah SAW pernah hidup dan dimakamkan. Ayahandanya pernah berpesan sebelum berangkat ke Madinah, “”Kamu lakukan dua hal, pertama berbaktilah dengan guru kamu. Dalam bakti pada ulama selama satu jam itu lebih baik dari belajar selama satu tahun. Yang kedua, kamu bersihkan hati. Karena hati yang sudah bersih hatinya, maka orang itu sudah siap menerima ilmu pelajaran,” kata Habib Hasan bin Ahmad Baharun.
“Itu luarbiasa dan terkesan betul. Kita bisa mengamalkan sunnah di tempat sumbernya sunnah. Kita merasa benar-benar teristimewakan dengan ada di tempat itu. Ada suasana ruhani yang berbeda, dengan di tempat lain, sebagaimana disabdakan oleh Rasulullah SAW, ’Keberkahan kota Madinah itu lebih bila dibandingkan dengan kota Mekkah dan kota-kota yang lainnya’,” katanya.
Kalau di Madinah, ia memperdalam ilmu fiqh (ibadah, syariah dan muamalat), ilmu alat (nahwu, shorof, balaghah) dan tasawuf. Ia berguru dengan Habib Zein bin Smith dan habaib lainnya seperti Habib Salim Asy-Syatiri, Habib Muhammad Al-Hamid, Habib Abdullah Ba’bud, Habib Abdullah Al-Masyhur, Syeikh Muhammad Fal As-Sinkiti dan lain-lain
Mengenai sosok Habib Zein bin Smith, ia sangat terkesan. ”Kita belajar di Ribath tak pernah keluar. Beliau adalah seorang alim yang sejati. Orang yang mengamalkan dengan ilmunya. Habib Zein, semua waktunya dipenuhi dengan amal ibadah. Kalau tidak mengajar, beliau berdzikir. Saya lihat, kalau di mobil beliau berdzikir, sambil menunggu orang, sambil berjalan, waktu luangnya banyak diisi dengan banyak berdzikir.”
Habib Zein seorang pendidik yang dzahir dan bathin. Dan muthalaah ilmu dari kitab justru banyak diperoleh lewat mimpi. “Kadang beliau menyuruh untuk membaca kitab-kitab tertentu dalam mimpi.”
Yang mengesankan dari Habib Zein adalah beliau tidak mau tunduk dengan orang-orang kaya dan pejabat. Ilmu adalah di atas segalanya. “Sekarang kita lihat ulama, dikejar-kejar oleh dunia, tapi dia tidak mau, maka makin dikejar-kejar oleh dunia. tapi mereka-mereka yang berangkat dari pagi kerja sampai malam tapi belum selesai. Tapi berkat agama Allah, kalau kalian bantu agama ini, pasti Allah akan bantu kalian. Di sini kita mulya, apalagi di akhirat nanti.”
