Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin al-Mughirah bin Bardizbah al-Ju'fi al-Bukhari atau lebih dikenal Imam Bukhari (Lahir 196 H/810 M - Wafat 256 H/870 M) adalah ahli hadits yang termasyhur di antara para ahli hadits sejak dulu hingga kini bersama dengan Imam Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidzi, An-Nasai dan Ibnu Majah bahkan dalam kitab-kitab Fiqih dan Hadits, hadits-hadits dia memiliki derajat yang tinggi. Sebagian menyebutnya dengan julukan Amirul Mukminin fil Hadits (Pemimpin kaum mukmin dalam hal Ilmu Hadits). Dalam bidang ini, hampir semua ulama di dunia merujuk kepadanya.
Al-Imam Abul Husain Muslim bin al-Hajjaj al-Qusyairi an-Naisaburi(bahasa Arab: أبو الحسين مسلم بن الحجاج القشيري النيشابوري), atau sering dikenal sebagai Imam Muslim (821-875) dilahirkan pada tahun 204 Hijriah dan meninggal dunia pada sore hari Ahad bulan Rajab tahun 261 Hijriah dan dikuburkan di Naisaburi.

Dia juga sudah belajar hadis sejak kecil seperti Imam Bukhari dan pernah mendengar dari guru-guru Al Bukhari dan ulama lain selain mereka. Orang yang menerima hadis dari dia ini, termasuk tokoh-tokoh ulama pada masanya. Ia juga telah menyusun beberapa tulisan yang bermutu dan bermanfaat. Yang paling bermanfaat adalah kitab Shahihnya yang dikenal dengan Shahih Muslim. Kitab ini disusun lebih sistematis dari Shahih Bukhari. Kedua kitab hadis shahih ini; Shahih Bukhari dan Shahih Muslim biasa disebut dengan Ash Shahihain. Kadua tokoh hadis ini biasa disebut Asy Syaikhani atau Asy Syaikhaini, yang berarti dua orang tua yang maksudnya dua tokoh ulama ahli hadis. Imam Al-Ghazali dalam kitab Ihya Ulumuddin terdapat istilah akhraja hu yang berarti mereka berdua meriwayatkannya.
