What is Soka Gakkai?
Soka Gakkai is a lay Buddhist organization which promotes peace, culture and education through personal transformation and social contribution. Soka Gakkai, which means "Value-Creation Society" in Japanese, is based on the teachings of the 13th-century Japanese priest Nichiren as set into motion by its first three presidents Tsunesaburō Makiguchi, Jōsei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda.
The aim of Soka Gakkai is the realization of a new humanism - the pursuit of happiness for both self and others, where trust, value creation and harmony are key.
