Henna word comes from the Latin for plant Lawsonia Inermis spoken by Arabs as Hinna. The exact origins of the art of mehndi hard to say because it has nearly 5,000 years old. Some historians say that the Mughals that brought the mehndi to India but other historians say that the origin of mehndi is India, while others say that the origin of mehndi is the Middle East or North Africa.

Most traditional wedding procession in several regions in Indonesia include the ritual use of henna leaves as a Malay wedding ritual. Each region has its own meaning and significance for the ritual, although at present this ritual is considered by most people of Indonesia as a complement to a traditional wedding procession alone.
