Hindi (हठन्दी), or more precisely Modern Standard Hindi (मानक हठन्दी), is a standardised and Sanskritised register of the Hindustani language. Hindustani is the native language of most people living in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Modern Standard Hindi is one of the official languages of India.

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language with about 545 million speakers, 425 million of whom are native speakers.
