Q.1) What is the Procedure of Selection of Officers in the Navy?
Ans :- Recruitment into the Navy is carried out on the basis of All India Merit. The number of s uniformed personnel recruited/inducted depends on the number of eligible applicants (men and women) who are able to qualify in the written test, Services Selection Board interview and medical examination and their relative position in the Merit. No distinction is made on the basis of gender/religion/caste/creed/region either during recruitment or at any point in time thereafter. The Commission in the Indian Navy is open to young men and women of our country. They have the option to join the Executive, Technical and Education Branches of the Indian Navy. Q.2) What is the Procedure of Recruitment of Sailors in the Navy?
Ans :- Recruitment of sailors in the Navy is application based and is carried out on the All India Merit on the basis of a Written Examination, Physical Fitness Test and Medical Examination. To make recruitment candidate friendly, the recruitment schedule is designed to cater for enough preparation time for the candidates and results are announced on the same day. Recruitment publicity is carried out on all India basis through advertisements in all leading National & Regional newspapers and Employment News. Publicity material is also despatched to a large number of schools / colleges and all Zilla Sainik Boards. The local administration carries out the publicity drive in rural / backward areas through local media.

The various entries, for recruitment of sailors, are as follows:-

(a) Artificer Apprentices (AAs) - 10+2 (PCM).

(b) Senior Secondary Recruit(SSR) - 10+2(PCM)

(c) Matric Entry Recruits - Matriculation.

(d) Non Matric Entry Recruits - Below Matric.

Q.3) Which branches can women apply for in the Navy?
Ans :- Presently, women officers are being inducted into the Law, Logistics, ATC, Observers (Aviation), Naval Architecture & Education Branch as Short Service Commission officers. However, the Government has now approved Permanent Commission for women in Law, Education and Naval Architecture cadre. In the Navy, the Service conditions are same for men and women officers.
