Its principal objective is that of being a knowledge source on the places, attractions and services relevant to Italian tourism.

To this end, the Official Website for Tourism in Italy avails itself of the technical contribution of ACI Informatica - Automobile Club d'Italia, and of an editorial team under Unicity S.p.A.. Both entities are coordinated by the Office for Tourism Administration and by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MIBACT), in collaboration with the Italian State Tourism Board (ENIT).
The Application is not property or related anyhow to the Italian Government but just a link to the official italia.it site. Since June, 2012, after a competition for Governmental contractors, Unicity S.p.A. won the right to create, manage and reorganize the content of Italia.it.
