Studi-studi agama dewasa ini mengalami perubahan orientasi yang jauh berbeda jika dibandingkan dengan kajian-kajian agama sebelum abad ke-19. Umumnya pengkajian agama sebelum abad ke-19 memiliki beberapa karakteristik yang antara lain, sinkritisme, penemuan arca baru, dan untuk kepentingan misionari dipicu oleh semangat dan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi sehingga orientasi dan metodologi studi islam mengalami perubahan.
Adapun studi islam sendiri merupakan ilmu keislaman mendasar. Dengan studi ini, pemeluknya mengetahui dan menetapkan ukuran ilmu, iman dan amal perbuatan kepada allah swt. Diketahui pula bahwa islam sebagai agama yang memiliki banyak dimensi yaitu mulai dari dimensi keimanan, akal fikiran, politik ekonomi, ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi lingkungan hidup, dan masih banyak lagi yang lainnya. Untuk memahami berbagai dimensi ajaran islam tersebut jelas memerlukan berbagai pendekatan yang digali dari berbagai disiplin ilmu. Selama ini islam banyak dipahami dari segi teologis dan normative.

B. RUMUSAN MASALAH
Dalam makalah ini agar lebih mudah untuk dipahami maka penulis berupaya untuk memberikan batasan hingga dapat dimengerti dengan jelas isi makalah ini sendiri secara baik dengan rumusan sebagai berikut:
