Kitab Kuning Bahasa Indonesia APPLICATION description
Yellow book, the Islamic religious education, referring to the books of the traditional containing religious lessons islam (diraasah al-Islamiyya) taught at the lodges boarding school, ranging from fiqh, faith, morality / mysticism, Arabic grammar ( ` `nahwu science and science sharf), hadith, tafsir,` Ulumul Qur'aan, to the social sciences and community (mu`amalah). Known as the book bald because it does not have a vowel (fathah, kasrah, dhammah, breadfruit), unlike the book of the Qur'an. Therefore, to be able to read the yellow book follows a literal sentence by sentence to be understood as a whole, it takes a relatively long time to learn that. The students were given a translation in the yellow book
Most of the passages of the scholars of post Khulafaa al-Rasyidin written using Arabic without a vowel, not like the Koran in general. Due to the purpose of the vowel in the Koran is to help to those
non-Arab and uniformity. As for those who master the Arabic grammar, it can be easily read the sentence without a vowel. This then in Indonesia known as the Book Halak to distinguish it from the book
marked with a vowel.
As for the mention of the term as Yellow Book, because it is the books and yellow paper, this is due to the yellow color is considered more convenient and easier to read in poor lighting conditions. When the lighting is still limited in the past, especially in the villages, the students who used to study at night with makeshift lighting. Although lighting is now easy, these books are partly still produced using paper yellow follow the tradition, although some have been printed on white paper (HVS). For others, it is because of the age of the paper that has been fashioned that helped make the paper the longer it will turn yellow and become darker naturally, was also mentioned when the first candle / lamp is not glowing white and still yellow, the paper white or yellow tantamount will remain visible yellow , so that when the yellow paper to become more economical then the use of yellow paper can ease the cost of mass production. Now in the modern era The books had been converted into a file on file electronic books, for example chm or pdf. There is also a computer software in the use of these books are Maktabah Syamila (Shameela) is also gaining popularity among the students used modern boarding school.
Clifford Geertz an anthropologist from the United States in his famous book entitled "Abangan, Pupils, Priyayi In the Java community" (the original title of The Religion of Java) [1] contains a bit of bubbly on the yellow book. There is also a book by a Dutch researcher Martin van Bruinessen entitled "Yellow Book, boarding school, and the Order", [2] which discusses the history of the yellow book and traditional Islamic education in Indonesia.
