istighfar dan taubat hanyalah cukup dengan lisan semata. Sebagian mere-ka mengucapkan, "Aku memohon ampunan kepada Allah dan bertaubat ke-padaNya"
Tetapi kalimat-kalimat di atas tidak membekas di dalam hati, juga tidak berpengaruh dalam perbuatan anggota badan. Sesungguhnya istighfar dan taubat jenis ini adalah perbuatan orang-orang dusta.
Para ulama - semoga Allah memberi balasan yang se-baik-baiknya kepada mereka telah menjelaskan hakikat istighfar dan taubat.
Imam Ar-Raghib Al-Ashfahani menerangkan: "Dalam istilah syara', taubat adalah meninggalkan dosa karena ke-burukannya, menyesali dosa yang telah dilakukan, berke-inginan kuat untuk tidak mengulanginya dan berusaha mela-kukan apa yang bisa diulangi (diganti). Jika keempat hal itu telah terpenuhi berarti syarat taubatnya telah sempurna"
