La Celestina es el nombre con el que se conoce desde el siglo XVI la obra titulada primero Comedia de Calisto y Melibea y después Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea, atribuida casi en su totalidad al bachiller Fernando de Rojas. Es una obra del Prerrenacimiento escrita durante el reinado de los Reyes Católicos; su primera edición conocida es de 1499, en Burgos. Constituye una de las bases sobre las que se cimentó el nacimiento de la novela y el teatro realista modernos y ejerció una influencia poderosa, aunque soterrada, sobre la literatura española.
La Celestina is the name that has been known since the sixteenth century, the first work entitled Comedy of Calisto and Melibea Tragicomedy of Calisto and then and Melibea attributed almost entirely to the bachelor Fernando de Rojas. It is a work of PreRenaissance written during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella; first edition known is 1499, in Burgos. Constitutes one of the foundations on which the birth of the novel and the modern realistic theater was cemented and exerted a powerful, though underground, influence on Spanish literature.
