Perjalan karier Ungun ini dimulai pada tahun 1995 ketika mereka sedang berkumpul di sebuah warung kecil di pinggiran kawasan Tebet, Jakarta Timur.
Kala itu Makki Parikesit (Makki-Bass), bersama teman-teman bandnya yaitu Eki (gitar), Gatot (keyboard), Michael (vokal),
dan Muhammad Nur Rochman (Rowman-drum) mereka mencetuskan nama “Ungu” sebagai nama band mereka.

Pada tahun 1997, Rowman (Drum) memutuskan untuk keluar dari Ungu untuk lebih serius dengan band metalnya “GARUX”.
Tempat Rowman sebagai penabuh Drum akhirnya digantikan oleh Icad. Tahun 1998 Vokalis Ungu saat itu, Michael,
akhirnya memutuskan untuk keluar dari Ungu karena kesibukan yang lian. Posisinya digantikan oleh Sigit Purnomo (Pasha-Vokal).
Mereka bertemu dengan Anang Hermansyah dan memperkenalkan Ungu dengan seorang produser Musik Handi Santoso yang pada saat itu masih menjabat sebagai Managing Director dari PT. Warner Music Indonesia.
