Matrimonio Cristiano

El matrimonio y la vida familiar son parte del magnífico plan de Dios para la creación. Desde la fundación del mundo, desde los comienzos mismos de la vida, Dios quiso que el hombre y la mujer se casaran y tuvieran hijos como fruto de su amor.

El Libro del Génesis nos dice simplemente que Dios creó al hombre y la mujer a su imagen y semejanza y que al hacerlo, los bendijo diciéndoles: “Tengan muchos, muchos hijos, llenen el mundo y gobiérnenlo” (Génesis 1,26-28). Y añade que Dios creó al hombre y la mujer para que fueran el uno para el otro: “Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre para unirse a su esposa, y los dos llegan a ser como una sola persona” (Génesis 2,24). Es evidente que Dios estableció el matrimonio, y por ello los cónyuges cristianos deben seguir el plan de Dios.

Ponemos énfasis en esta verdad básica porque éste es el fundamento mismo sobre el cual deben edificarse los matrimonios cristianos. El matrimonio fue establecido por Dios en el Edén, antes que entrara el pecado en el mundo (Gn. 2:20-25). Dios creó al hombre varón y mujer (1:27, 28). Adán fue creado primero, luego Eva como "ayuda idónea" (2:18, 21-23). Quería que la relación matrimonial fuera un medio para ennoblecer a ambos participantes y para facilitar el desarrollo de caracteres maduros y abnegados en ambos padres y sus hijos.

La relación matrimonial debía ser permanente (Mt. 19:6) y disolverse sólo por muerte (Ro. 7:2, 3), o por divorcio* con causales específicas (Mt. 19:3-9). Se recomendaba 762 el celibato sólo en casos excepcionales (Mt. 19:10-12; 1 Co. 7:8, 26, 27).

Marriage and family life are part of the grand plan of God for creation. Since the foundation of the world, from the very beginning of life, God wanted man and woman to marry and have children as a result of their love.

The Book of Genesis tells us simply that God created man and woman in his image and likeness and in doing so, blessed them saying, "Have many, many children, fill the earth and subdue it" (Genesis 1,26-28) . He adds that God created man and woman so that they were meant for each other: "Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two become one flesh" (Gen. 2:24). It is evident that God established marriage, and so Christian spouses should follow God's plan.

We emphasize this basic truth because this is the foundation on which Christian marriages should be built. Marriage was established by God in Eden before sin entered the world (Gn. 2: 20-25). God created man male and female (1:27, 28). Adam was created first, then Eve as "helpmate" (2:18, 21-23).
