Inmiddels zijn er een kleine 3000 mediators opgenomen in het MfN register die allemaal voldoen aan de beroepsvaardigheid eisen van het MfN. Deze mediators mogen de titel MfN Registermediator voeren. Voorafgaand hieraan dienen de mediators een opleiding te hebben gevolgd bij een MfN erkend instituut en ook hun theoretisch en praktisch examen met goed gevolg afgelegd te hebben.

Velen vragen zich af of een mediator voldoende mediations kan doen om van te leven. Het antwoord is volmondig ‘ja!’. Het is natuurlijk even als bij andere zelfstandige beroepen zo, dat er door de praktiserend mediator wel acquisities moeten worden gedaan. Het beste is om dat bij verwijzers zoals bijvoorbeeld gemeenten, woningcorporaties of grotere organisaties te doen. Zij hebben regelmatig mediators nodig. Specialisatie opleidingen zoals Familiemediation en Arbeidsmediation helpen om werk te vinden in deze segmenten. (Echtscheidingen, nalatenschappen en arbeidsconflicten zijn op dit moment ongeveer 60% van de mediationmarkt.)

Het is natuurlijk ook mogelijk om als mediator in een maatschap te gaan werken om zo de kosten te reduceren en door synergie een sterkere organisatie te vormen. Daarnaast zijn er franchise formules die zich toeleggen op het verwerven van opdrachten, zodat u zich bezig kunt houden met het mediationvak. Kortom er zijn voldoende mogelijkheden om een goede mediationpraktijk op te bouwen. Ook zullen mediation competenties steeds belangrijker worden bij sollicitaties naar leiding gevende functies. Conflicten op de werkvloer leiden steeds vaker tot ziekteverzuim en werkgevers zullen steeds meer preventieve maatregelen willen nemen om kostenbesparingen te realiseren. Dat begint al met de competenties van nieuwe managers.

Het Mediation College in Alkmaar is een door MfN erkend instituut en geeft al een aantal jaren maandelijks de basisopleiding ‘Professioneel Mediator’, welke nodig is om toe te treden tot het MfN register. De opleiding vindt plaats in het eigen trainingscentrum van het Mediation College in Alkmaar en sinds kort ook in Doetinchem.
