Mehndi Tattoo Designs

mehndi is a term that is driven from the Sanskrit language. The term 'mehndi' a refined form today was originally called as mendhikā. Its use in combination with turmeric is explained in Hindu Vedic ritual books.

Originally the mehndi was applied on hands of women not of men. But as time progressed, mehndi started appearing on hands of men and women each and also on other parts of the body including feet, shoulders, neck, elbows. Most apply mehndi designs on hands for specific occassions, but then there are a few who apply it as a form of mehndi tattoo.

It was intended as a a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun.
Th eidea was to show the 'awakening of the sun' as it was considered a God for many hindus. The sun on the palm tattoos are now converted in to floral patterns, line art and arabic mehndi design and is practiced across the world, specially in Asia.
