Dios le había concedido ya el don de profecía y el don de milagros. Cuando pedía limosna para reparar la iglesia de San Damián, acostumbraba decir: "Ayudadme a terminar esta iglesia. Un día habrá ahí un convento de religiosas en cuyo buen nombre se glorificarán el Señor y la universal Iglesia". La profecía se verificó cinco años más tarde en Santa Clara y sus religiosas. Un habitante de Espoleto sufría de un cáncer que le había desfigurado horriblemente el rostro. En cierta ocasión, al cruzarse con San Francisco, el hombre intentó arrojarse a sus pies, pero el santo se lo impidió y le besó en el rostro. El enfermo quedó instantáneamente curado.
