Noto Informa APPLICATION description
Noto capitale del barocco siciliano. Sorge come un piccolo gioiello arroccato su un altopiano che domina la valle dell’Asinaro, coperta di agrumeti, mandorleti e alberi da frutto.
La sua bellezza, così armoniosa da sembrare la scena di un film, nasce da un evento tragico: il terremoto del 9-11 gennaio 1693, che in questa parte di Sicilia portò distruzione e morte, ma diede anche un forte impulso alla ricostruzione, alla rinascita. Prima di allora, la città sorgeva a 10 km di distanza sul Monte Alveria.
Di origini assai antiche, Noto diede i natali a Ducezio, che nel V sec. a.C. fece tremare i Greci per aver fatto insorgere contro di loro i Siculi.
Dopo il terremoto del 1693, per la ricostruzione, dopo ampio e vivace dibattito, venne scelto un luogo meno impervio del sito montano e più vasto, tale da permettere la realizzazione di un impianto semplice, lineare, con intersezioni ad angolo retto e strade parallele ed ampie, secondo il nuovo gusto barocco. Le vie principali di Noto corrono da est a ovest perchè il sole le illumini lungo tutto il suo percorso quotidiano.
I palazzi maestosi, tutti costruiti con la pietra calcarea locale, tenera e compatta, dal candore che il tempo e gli agenti atmosferici hanno colorato creando quella magnifica tinta dorata e rosea, che la luce del tramonto accentua. Alla ricostruzione, condotta dal Duca di Calastra, rappresentante a Noto del vicerè spagnolo, parteciparono molti artisti siciliani, tra i quali gli architetti Paolo Labisi, Vincenzo Sinatra e Rosario Gagliardi, che, influenzato dal Borromini, è certamente la personalità artistica che più profondamente ha influenzato il complesso monumentale netino.
La città venne costruita studiando ed esaltando le prospettive in modo singolare, giocando con le linee e le curvature delle facciate, con le decorazioni delle mensole, i riccioli e le volute, i mascheroni, i putti, i balconi dai parapetti in ferro battuto che si piega in forme aggraziate e panciute.
A Noto è sbocciato quel germe barocco che, portato dalle mani degli artisti italiani, vide fiorire lo stile in tutta Europa.
Oggi, “Noto appare un’isola nell’isola… La sua urbanistica arieggia ancor più quella delle grandi Ville romane, gli accorgimenti, le paratie, gli squarci improvvisi, le prospettive a perdita d’occhio, le svolte, le terrazze, gli inviti.
