Option Calculator APPLICATION description
This app calculates option price or implied volatility and option Greeks using the famous Black-Scholes model. It is available for Android 2.3.3 or above. This calculator is also available as a plug and play component with source code which can be integrated into your mobile app
The Black-Scholes model is used to calculate the theoretical price of European put and call options, ignoring any dividends paid during the option's lifetime. The math involved in the formula is quite complicated and can be intimidating. Fortunately, the model can be used as a black box in form of calculators by traders and investors.
It is interesting to note that Black and Scholes had sent their article in 1970 to the Journal of Political Economy (published by Chicago University) which rejected it. Harvard's Review of Economics and Statistics also returned their paper. Finally, after some intervention by some Chicago University faculty members, the article was published in the May/June 1973 issue of The Journal of Political Economy.
Two other developments helped make this model so popular and influential. One was that the Chicago Board Options Exchange had opened for business in April 1973. The other was the appearance of hand-held electronic calculators at around the same time. These calculators could run this model providing easy access to traders.
