PACE-UP Next Steps APPLICATION description
The PACE-UP Next Steps application is designed to support participants in the PACE-UP walking programme.
PACE-UP was a randomised controlled trial of a pedometer intervention to increase walking in adults which ran from 2012-2016 across several general practices in South West London. The trial demonstrated that those aged 45-75 became more active when they were given a pedometer (to count their steps) with a physical activity diary and guidance on a 12-week walking programme. Following the success of the trial, which was based around a paper handbook, PACE-UP is being expanded to provide support for participants to store their progress on online. The PACE-UP Next Steps website and mobile app allows participants to record their steps taken, and to review these against their personalised targets calculated by the programme. The application also provides access to reference material explaining how these targets are calculated, and giving a detailed background to the PACE-UP approach.
