Prague on foot

The Royal Route is a great walk through Prague's historical core up to the Castle. Along the way you can admire the best of what Prague can offer. The New Town, between Vyšehrad and Old Town, serves as Prague's main commercial district. A lot of hotels and banks are located there, as well as department stores, boutiques and a few small shopping malls. The New Town is also rich in culture, offering many theatres, cinemas, museums, and the State Opera House. The bustling heart of New Town is Wenceslas Square, which starts at the National Museum and ends at the edge of Old Town. The centre of the Old Town, properly named Old Town Square, has served as Prague’s main marketplace for over 1000 years. The square is home to most of the major sights, including the city’s famous Astronomical Clock. Narrow, cobblestoned lanes radiate from the square in all directions following a plan that defies any shred of modern logic. There are no straight lines here; indeed the streets look as if they were carved by nature rather than the work of man.
