Características

garganta estriada de preto. Bico longo, curvilíneo de cor preta, com a mandíbula amarela.
Pode ser sintópico com o rabo-branco-pequeno (Phaethornis squalidus),
do qual difere pelo porte muito maior, e com o rabo-branco-acanelado (Phaethornis pretrei),
da qual difere pelo colorido geral da plumagem e pelo bico de mandíbula amarela e não vermelha.

Hábitos

Vive nas florestas úmidas do Brasil oriental,
em particular nos estratos inferiores da Mata Atlântica e capoeiras ao redor.
Parece que “trafega” por picadas e estradas abertas no interior das florestas densas onde vive,
assustando observadores com sua aparição súbita, frequentemente desviando-se no último instante.
